Dr Colin Whittington

Colin Whittington has provided independent consultancy and research since 2000 and now works part-time on selected projects. He was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Greenwich from 2012-2021 and his previous roles include social worker, social services team leader, university teacher, education adviser and senior manager. He was Principal Research and Development for the national social care training organisation, writing a key contribution on 'partnership of social care and health' for the government-endorsed first national training strategy for England. He previously headed the London and South East region of the former UK social work education council. He was Fellow in Advanced Studies at Keele University and honorary Research Fellow in the Management Centre, King's College London. He has authored over 50 publications.

His academic/research qualifications include a doctorate in education (PhD, King's College London), an MA in the sociology of organisations and an advanced diploma in social services administration (Keele University). He also has practitioner certificates in social work and as a mentor/coach (City University, London). In addition to his consultancy, he served on the Editorial Boards of the British Journal of Social Work and the Journal of Practice Teaching and Learning and, already an experienced social work/social sciences teacher, made numerous visiting contributions to the MA and BA Social Work programmes at Greenwich University.
